Freelance Photographer based in Porto, Portugal.

Joana Dionísio was born in 1993 and began her training in Product Design, where she had her first formal contact with photography.
From that moment on, her interest in imagery began developing, sparking a desire to deepen her knowledge on the subject. For this reason, she attended a degree in Audiovisual Communication Technologies with a specialty in photography.
After finishing her degree, Joana worked for nearly 4 years at Farfetch as a photographer and she is currently working within the area of photography as a freelancer while continuing to develop her personal projects.

Artist Statement

What interests me in photography is it’s subjective, metaphorical and symbolic nature, I am interested in exploring the different layers of interpretation that can be created with an image.
My work is characterized by a strong autobiographical strand,  that explores themes such as identity, family and memory, reflecting on how human beings relate to themselves and to the world.
My work process is strongly influenced by Design Thinking and my photographic language is a combination of images that I find in the world with images that I create from scratch.
